A Sociological Definition of Class Conflict and Struggle

Definition: According to Karl Marx, class conflict and struggle occur because of the economic organization of most societies. According to the Marxist perspective, class conflict and struggle are inevitable in capitalist societies because the interests of workers and capitalists are fundamentally at odds with each other. Capitalists accumulate wealth by exploiting workers while workers maintain or advance their own well-being only by resisting capitalist exploitation. The result is conflict and struggle, which is reflected in all aspects of social life, from unionizing efforts to strikes to political campaigns to immigration policies.

Summary Of Lorraine Hansberry - 1486 Words

Lorraine Hansberry, born May 19, 1930, made a very prominent contribution to society in her short lived life. She was born to a middle class family as the youngest of four children. Her father was a successful real estate broker who also founded one of the first Negro banks in Chicago (Adams 247). Lorraine’s mother was a schoolteacher named Nannie Perry who later became a ward committeewoman. In 1938, Lorraine’s father took a stand against the real estate covenants in Chicago due to the fact that they legally promoted housing discrimination. He chose to move his family into a predominantly white neighborhood to prove his point and try to make a change. The court case that resulted from this stand led to a lot of hostility from those around the Hansberry family. There was a violent attack on the family’s home by a mob who threw bricks into the house while shouting. Even with this reaction to the Hansberrys moving into the neighborhood, the family decided to stay to stand their ground. The court case went all the way to the federal Supreme Court where the ruling was that this kind of discrimination was unlawful. However, Chicago continued restrictive covenants anyways and eventually the Hansberry family was forced to move out of the neighborhood (â€Å"Lorraine Hansberry† Gale). Before dipping a bit deeper into my own personality test named the big five personality test, I like to understand more about the concept of these evaluations. Personality tests are used in various ways and for several reasons. The spectrum of participate range from fun and humor to evaluations for professional and behavior perspectives. Many of these personality tests out there have an entertainment purpose only and have little scientifically value. So to understand the purpose of a personality test is a tool that is used to describe the personality of a person at any given moment or day Therefore when discussing ourselves or even others we refer to that persons personality characteristics. In the field of psychology a person(s) his or her personality can be assessed with help of a personality test. To consider my own field of career with clients with a diagnosed mental illness these personality tests can be used to evaluate changes in personality as well to evaluate the success of a therapy. It is fair to state that each of these evaluations have its strengths, weaknesses as well their limited reliability and validation as well its dual purpose. A personality test on recreational and drinking behavior can be used in a professional and work attendance assessment. The prime three factors described as follows: Economical factor: According to Huang (2013), economical factor dictates the way an organization will conduct its business activity. As the first objective of every organization is to generate revenues, so that it can able to maintain its position in the market and provide fare amount of benefits to all its employees. Hence, it is very important for a company to ensure its revenue level before becoming a good corporate citizen. However, BHP Billiton is among the top companies of the world. It revenue is around AUD $61 billion with having customers present all over the world. However, as employees of the BHP Billiton works in a hazardous environment, it consider the health of the employees before the profit of the company. The company invests a huge portion of its revenue to ensure that all its employees can able to have a good healthy life. The economic activities also the company also includes factors like small business development, providing education to poor peoples so that the future generation ca n also able to live a healthy life. Ethical factor: As BHP Billiton belongs to mining and exploration industry, it always has to focus on its ethical practices. Otherwise, it can have serious impact on the ecological sustainability of the society. The company also acknowledges that the nature of the business does have the potential to create major impact on the environmental ecosystem. Hence, BHP Billiton CSR activities focuses on the robust identification, control and assessment of the risk of the material at all phases of the businesses. BHP Billiton CSR activity also highly focused on the greenhouse gas emission so that it can able to protect the environment from the adverse factor. BHP Billiton have invested huge amount so that it can able to minimize the rate of climate change. BHP Billiton is highly focused regarding the maintenance of biodiversity and ecosystem for future. It recently launches five rivers conservation project in order to ensure ecological sustainability. The objective of BHP Billiton formulated with an aim of improving the present level of natural resource management. BHP Billitons contribution in handling Olympic Dam Asset in South Australia is highly praised throughout the world. In 2011, BHP Billiton investment 37 million on land rehabilitation program to ensure more than 220 hectares able to recover from the overburden seeded (Kolk 2016). Hence, the above discussion highlighted the fact that the above three factors of CSR has huge impact on the corporate activities in the area of ecological sustainability.
